| The Africa HIV/AIDS Research
Database (Africa HARD) is a WANGONeT (West African NGO Network)
initiative to complement the ongoing continent-wide response to
the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
While there are many Internet-based knowledge
and research resources on the issue, this is a unique and indigenous
attempt at integrating continent-wide data, views, opinions, debates
and facts about this all important public health issue with the
more traditional and pervasive Western views on the matter.
In its fullest iteration, the Africa H.A.R.D.
site will:
- Situate and contextualise research on HIV/AIDS
in Africa.
- Consolidate current and historic data on the
subject matter.
- Encourage on-line conference and research on
the subject and catalyse debate, advocacy and action on behalf
of Africa.
- Facilitate the networking of national, continental
and international stakeholders in a coordinated and informed
offensive against the epidemic.
This website was created at the behest of President
Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria for the purpose of adding intellectual
value to the All-Africa Heads of State summit on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis
and other related infectious diseases.
Beyond ths summit, it is hoped that this site
will ultimately develop into a global platform for advocacy and
action resulting in the rapid development of our people.
Your involvement and support are thus solicited.
